ASWN members include representatives of large international NGO’s like the World Wildlife Fund (WWF – with offices in Pakistan, India and the UAE) and the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS), as well as grass-roots environmental organizations like the Environment Society of Oman and Plan4theland in Iran. It also includes regional academic institutions, such as the University of Karachi, and independent researchers in Oman, India, Iran and Sri Lanka and other whale experts from around the world.
The US Marine Mammal Commission, Emirates Wildlife Society-WWF, WWF Pakistan, the International Whaling Commission and WWF International have provided crucial funding for our first meeting in 2015, network coordination, this website, and the creation of a regional online data platform. Significant amounts of staff time for scientific coordination, fundraising and strategy development have been donated by the the Wildlife Conservation Society, Five Oceans Environmental Services and the Environment Society of Oman. All ASWN members are doing hugely important work in the field of cetacean research, conservation, and awareness -raising.
